Music Review � Funhouse

Following in the footsteps, of latest CD titles followed by Britney Spears Circus and Christina Aguilera�s Enter the Circus, comes Pink�s newest album Funhouse.

This CD , you will notice a big change in the way Pink�s lyrics are , and the way her music sounds however there are a couple of songs on the album where the Pink we know shines through , other than that her album�s philosophy is � What do I know at 29 ? I know that things are what we seek, but love is beneath that. If love isn�t� the foundation-then things will fall. For even if they stand-they mean nothing. I�ve had both-and if given a chance to choose-----soberly-I choose love, humbly-----I choose love and wisely----I choose love.�

A Common occurrence between Pink�s songs on Funhouse is that she uses the familiar mix of nanana�s , lalalala�s and dadada�s throughout a number of her songs as either start�s or choruses.

In Pink�s song : Soooo What , we listen as she sings about her recent break-up with ex-hubby Cary , and just to make sure that her music as that Pink familiarity about it , she pays Jessica Simpson , a I hate you tribute to her song , another enemy to add to her list. Another familiarity is that the song Funhouse is the only song on the album that contains that husky voice we all know from her earlier albums.

Pink has however toned down her music in this CD, becoming more a Pop singer rather than a punk rocker. Which for myself , I actually prefer better as It�s not too heavy and you can actually understand the lyrics and for once they have a sense of meaning behind them. If your into dancing and appreciate music with a good beat , then this album is definitely for you , as each song is accompanied by its own dancing individual beat. I think that a big reason she has toned down her music, as I wrote before, her philosophy for this album was the big L: Love. The majority us out there all know well, that the reason a love album succeeds is that the music has that nice, sentimental feel to it and isn�t blowing out your eardrums at the same time, hence the pop twist to the album rather the rocker chick.

As we have all heard the famous song Ave Maria , on Funhouse we are introduced to a new and unheard version as we listen to Pink�s remix titled Ave Mary A.

Overall , I have to say that Funhouse rates as one of the top albums made from Pink , her costumes on the video clips are to utterly die for , the beats and lyrics are awesome . I give Pink�s Funhouse a 8.5/10 Pink Candyflosses.

Book Review � A Girl for all Seasons � the Year in High Heels by Camilla Morton

Need to know those everyday skills, How to write a letter to planning a party to the know-hows of festivals such as The Academy Awards and Cannes Festival. Like a bit of useless trivia to the fact of unusual events of which particular date e.g 2^nd February is the start of the Feast of the Purification of Virgins.

Want to stand out and strut the catwalk gracefully, curate your own art exhibition, overcome those public speaking nerves, be the glamourpuss you are at the Melbourne Cup Days and Ellerslie Flower Shows. Learn a language and travel the globe in style and make the most boring things enchanting.

Well, with reading A Girl for all seasons, you can learn all this whilst reading a month to month guide of tidbits and how-to�s. Each section contains a diary of dates and useless information that happened on that particular date, a selection of How-to�s relevant to that month e.g February brings us and How to do make truffles and How to Valentine�s Day alone and gives a brief on how Valentine�s day came to exist.

Included as a bonus for each month is a collection of fine articles from a Wish you were here: A Chapter from an author to give us a wonderful insight of their country e.g the wonderful Manolo Blahnik writing from Istanbul.

A Muse of the Month: This is a woman who has proved to be an wonderful asset and inspiration to all ages whilst growing up these include ladies such as writer Jane Austen, Cosmetic stars Coco Chanel, Elizabeth Arden, Actresses Marilyn Monroe and an All-time favourite of mine Audrey Hepburn, to Singers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Artists Peggy Guggenheim and Frida Kahlo, First Lady Jackie Kennedy-Onassis to Queens Cleopatra and Queen Elizabeth I (The Golden Age)and for all those who love the fairytale endings our wonderful Cinderella concludes the muses of the month.

For all those bookworms out there, each month provides a different book to read and explore from classics such as George Orwell�s Animal Farm to The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald, Perfume by Patrick Suskind (This has recently been made into a flick starring Dustin Hoffman and Alan Rickman) and every little girl�s favourite The Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett to unknown books in the likes of The Kid Stays in the Picture by Robert Evans and The Black Violin by Maxence Fermine.

And to conclude each chapter, for all those Shoe-Lovers out there, pun intended a foot note; this discusses a particular footwear item. These range from The Ballet Shoe to the Stiletto/Wedges to the good old Wellington Boots. Included in the footnote tells us all the details from what occasion the shoe is suited to, to the how it got its name. An excerpt of the Wellington Boot explains What it is good for and How the Wellington Boot came to be named �Essential for those April showers and any rainy day in particular . The gumboot, the wellie, the rubber boot, whatever you call its indispensable for the rainy season. It is so named and famed thanks to Arthur Wellesley, first Duke of Wellington�.

Book Review � The Bride of Casa Dracula by Marta Acosta

Since the release of Stephanie Meyer�s Twilight Series, it has opened up a huge niche for Paranormal Romances especially involving Vampires/Vampyres depending which book your reading. For all those who loved Helen Fielding�s Bridget Jones Diary and Anne Rice�s Interview with the Vampire either the books or the films, and then you are sure to enjoy this as I place it as a mix between those two.

I was browsing the library the other day , as I am absolutely in love with books on Vamps and Werewolves , and came across a book just released titled The Bride of Casa Dracula , It is set in the desert of Mexico and stars Latino Author Milagro De Los Santos ( Very Latin-American name) and her fianc� Oswald Grant M.D.

As they prepare for their wedding, they come across and face-to-face with a number of obstacles. The first and major one is that Oswald is a Vampire and Milagro in the face of death was saved by a Vampire, has become a hybrid of human and vampire. To top this all off her future in-laws absolutely despise her, her poor companion Daisy has died, her mother Regina can�t stand her.

To make matters worse in the prior months of her wedding, Milagro is presented with an invitation to appear in front of the �Vampire Council�. In which, they must decide whether or not she is suitable to become a vampire�s wife. For Milagro this decision is easier said than done, as she has lived most of her life as a human, and her college friends have arrived and taken the wedding planning into their own hands.

Further on in the book , you start to get the feeling are Oswald and Milagro going to get their happy ending as chaos arises from one thing or another. This book faces obstacles from those awful car-brakes getting cut to old and new flames. As things get worse and worse, the cracks between Oswald and Milagro start to seep and we are left thinking is Milagro paranoid or is somebody out there willing to pull all the stops to make sure she doesn�t wed the undead?.

Also featured inside the book , in case you wish to use it as a book club read is a couple of pages filled with discussion questions , a conversation with the author Marta Acosta and a preview to her first book Happy Hour at Casa Dracula.

Christopher Moore acclaimed that this book is �a spicy comedy of manners and fangs�. Anyone who loves that down-to-earth attitude with a twist of vampire blood to it .This is a Fang-tastic Read.

As the New Year dawns on and hits 1^st January, we all set those yearly resolutions that we aim to keep throughout the year. You know the ones, I will exercise once a week, I will not drink alcohol, and I will quit smoking. For me I always plan each year to start a diary and continue throughout the year, unfortunately like many others after the first week or so, I get bored and the resolution fades out of my head till next year. This year however I am determined to put my resolution dreams into action and keep a diary. So, as daylight hits on January 1^st 2009, isn�t it time for me and you to finally religiously commit to our resolutions.

When It comes to what to put into a diary, It can be anything from your deepest thoughts to those crushes you have �the I Heart (Insert name) �, to those wild nights of one-night stand passions and inner feelings, it can even include those boring everyday notes reminding you that the electrician is coming today or that horrible dentist appointment you�ve been dreading is coming up. For me, looking at diaries I�ve kept over the years, I have recorded inspirational quotes e.g Kirsten Dunst�The real secret to total gorgeousness is to believe in yourself, have self-confidence and try to be secure in your decision and thoughts. Other things I have written is Poems that attract my attention and my own quotes and random thoughts.

Blogging provides an open forum to the world where you can express your feelings on everything and anything from things as simple as that awful shopkeeper who said you were bigger than you were to that awesome meal you had. It is also offers the opportunity for readers to write back and share their similar experiences with the world.

There are over 20 million different blogs and bloggers on the net. Anyone can do it, it�s as simple as 1, 2, 3 and there are lots of sites that offer free blogging and who knows your blog maybe snatched up by a publishing company e.g the notorious call-girl Belle Du Jour started documenting her life on a blog and was later made into a book and then a TV Programme starring Billie Piper and another in UK was titled �Girl with a One-Track Mind�. With the internet who knows what will happen, what started as a New Year�s Resolution could end up a million dollar deal and changing your life.

Double D: Diet and Detox

Christmas, The time where we all go home and stock up on Junk Food and leftovers, alcohol and those fruit Christmas puddings. We all eat like crazy the week of Christmas, with the hopes of starting a diet at New Years. This doesn�t mean just donning a pair of stylish trackies and sneakers, it actually means getting off your butt and heading out that door and being serious. A recent survey showed that the busiest joining month at a Gym was January with membership up 10% more than the other 11 months.

If you walk into your local bookshop or library and wander over to the dieting section, you will be instantly overwhelmed with books on different types of diets and detoxes you can do. Around the world there are approximately over 4000 books on dieting and detoxes alone. Unfortunately, this leaves you wide open with what diet suits you.

Before attempting any diet or detox, just to be on the safe side as we don�t want to see you wither away and get sick, it definitely pays to visit your local GP or nutritionist and ask for their advice on which diet you should take as some can have side effects on your health. Also make sure, that you don�t cut everything out as even though you�re dieting/detoxing your body, you still need to make an allowance that your body is receiving all the vitamins and minerals needed to function well.

Here below are a few of the most popular and approved diets worth knowing about:

Atkins � This diet focuses on making sure you eat a mixture of high-fat, high-protein, high-profile and low- carbohydrates. This means that you can eat foods like meat, eggs, poultry, fats and oils but means that you have to stay away from foods with high carbs which includes grain, wheat and some fruit and veggies.

My friend�s mum did the Atkins diet and it did actually prove to work wonders.

Zone- The Zone diet means eating the �right� foods, in this case is a balance of 40% Carbohydrates, 30% Protein and 30% Fat.

GI � GI stands for Glycemic Index, which looks at the effect of carbohydrates on blood glucose levels, ranks them and then compares them gram for gram to other foods. In my case, I�d advice against this diet as it seems to confusing to stick to and I know for sure I wouldn�t be able to follow it.

Weight Watchers � This is an all-time favourite and popular way of losing weight with the likes of Fergie (The Duchess of York not the Singer) being an Ambassador for the programme. It is a low to moderate fat diet plan where the emphasis is placed on having portion sizes and counting calories. This diet also offers alot of support for dieters by having weekly meetings and weigh-ins.

The Blood Group Diet � This diet is quite a popular one, with I know that the library�s copy of this book is always out and on request. It works with the make-up of the 4 Blood Types and describes a diet specific to your blood type. It aims to help you lose weight and improve your digestion. The story behind this particular diet is that there are certain foods that react negatively to components within your blood. Before attempting this diet, it pays to drop into your local Blood Donor centre or GP and find out what your blood type is.

The Macrobiotic Diet � This diet is definitely not one for the faint-hearted, this diet is known as Gwyneth Paltrow�s choice. It consists of low-fat, high-fibre diet of whole grains, veggies, sea algae and bird seed (these last two don�t sound like my cup of tea � YUK!!). It is said to help synchronize your eating habits with the cycles of nature.

If none of these above diets , strike your fancy and you happen to be a bit of a sweet tooth , then here�s a couple you could try.

The Lemonade Diet � This aims to dissolve and eliminate all those horrible toxins or congestion in your body. It is also considered to be good for those kidneys and that digestive system of ours and aims to fully cleanse it.

The Maple-Syrup Diet � This diet was used by Beyonce when she needed to slim down to her sixties physique for her role in Dreamgirls. The diet consists as a replacement for meals a liquid drink of Maple Syrup mixed with water, lemon juice and cayenne pepper. This doesn�t actually sound that half-bad, if made to I�d give this concoction a try.

How to Get That Job:

Just finished school or university, need a job or just looking for a promotion? Then read on as I give you a few tips on how to shine above the rest, to offer you an advantage that the other applicants don�t have. When first applying for any job, there are two main points you have to focus on: Your presentation skills and tightening up your CV.

What does the perfect CV contain and how long is it? The perfect version should be easy to read and only 1-2 pages maximum. It should contain the 3A�s: your relevant achievements, aspirations and ambitions.

Your CV should give the employer the chance to glance at the key facts about you e.g Name etc, your education and qualifications and job experiences up-to-date. When writing your CV make sure that you highlight all your best qualities and achievements as when an employer is searching for that one person who can make his job easier and do a great job at the same time, he doesn�t want to sit there reading a long boring CV, he wants something that�ll stand out from the others and say I�m the best for the job, so let�s cut to the chase and give me an interview to prove myself.

There are two main types of CV�s: There is the most common type used, The Chronological CV: this lists all employment, education and achievements. When writing this kind of CV, make sure that you edit the information to keep it current as well as relevant as the worst thing for an employer to see is when reading a CV for a job position, that the person applying has had no experience, or has sent in an old CV that he/she hasn�t got around to updating which does not leave a good first impression with the employer.

The other type of CV which can be used is the Functional CV; this highlights your skills within a particular job. It describes to the employer what you did in detail within your previous work employment history rather than letting the job title alone sell you short. E.g The Job title Librarian could range from working as a parent volunteer in a school library , to being a cataloguer/book buyer for the public library to being a Children�s and Teenage Librarian. With any job the title could mean a range of different jobs.

So you�ve got the CV part under control and covered, well that�s only half the job complete, the other half is the Cover Letter, which many jobs ask you to accompany with your CV. This is the part where you can make sure that you sell yourself, by stating how great a worker you are and what you could contribute to the job, as the majority of interviewers only read upon receiving the CV, the cover letter to get a fair impression of the job applicant. However, don�t ramble on in the letter as the cover letter should only be one page long. When writing your final copy of your cover letter make sure as well as your pick-me speech that you add what job you are applying for , your contact details, that your CV is attached and that you hope to hear from them soon. Use the KISS acronym when writing � Keep It Simple Stupid.

Just a quick tip, when writing your cover letter, make sure that it is easy to read and use an appropriate font type and size. A preferred font is Times New Roman or Calibri and size 11 or 12. Also that it is written in black ink and not coloured and printed on white paper and sign it at the bottom as even though you maybe a kisses and hugs and into coloured or perfumed paper, this is seen as unprofessional and when applying for a job we want to make sure that we have a hint of professionalism to ourselves.

The final stage of applying for the job is the interview in where they can meet you and see whether their impression on paper was as good as or better than your face-to-face impression. A wonderful tip I was given as I totally hate interviews was that a few days prior read up on the job you have applied for and a bit of information about the company itself. By reading up on the company this can show you whether or not you can fit in e.g do you believe in their vision; are their ethics good enough for you? . This is also a good chance to research and practise what questions they may ask and how you are going to answer them. Another good tip I found is that if you are going for a job that needs you to be up-to-date on information, start reading whatever you can on the topic e.g when I went for my library job interview which I did eventually get, I was asked how would I keep up to date with the new books, what series were available if my child liked spy stories? , As a big reader myself, I was able to add in what I read but also magazine book reviews and book reviews on the internet.

Just remember, to be yourself as you can only make one great and awesome first impression. You are unique, a one-off, let them see you sparkle and shine , just be the best you are as no-one can take that away from you.

HOW TO PODCAST

With IPOD�s becoming the new generation toy and overlapping sales of CD Players, Radios etc. We are here to Inform you that not only can your IPOD provide you with the musical and movie entertainment but also provide you with what can only be called the soundtrack of your mind.

With the use of the Internet and ITunes, you can now choose your favourite Speeches, radio shows, live shows, bands and books and create your own personalised playlist. Podcasts aim is to basically play and record what you want to see/hear. Do you want to learn how, be among the millions of podcast listeners? Already around the world, there are approximately 75 million podcast users.

So how do you download an audio/visual podcast onto your IPOD? , First things first is that you, if you don�t already go to www.itunes.com and download onto your computer ITunes.

Once connected into your ITunes, you should see on the left hand side in the menu bar the word Podcasts. If you�re not sure what type of Podcasts are available, then you can click on to this and search the ITunes store to see if anything tickles your fancy. Some websites offer free podcast downloads e.g ZM Online www.zmonline.co.nz , other�s cost but if you want a full list of what is offered out there on the big World wide web , then feel free to do a Google search www.google.com to see what is available. Another good website that is quite popular when it comes to use for songs, movies and Podcasting is www.limewire.com

As for the Time Limit, just like your IPOD music, you get to keep the Podcasts for as long as it takes to eventually become bored with it. Also the amount of Podcasts you decide to download is also up to how big of IPOD and computer system you have. Once downloaded you can drag the file into your Podcast section of your ITunes account and click Sync, once ITunes has finished synching with the IPOD your Podcast should be automatically uploaded onto your IPOD.

So now that you�ve got the know-how on downloading, how about a bit more advanced knowledge on uploading your very own podcasts. If you are an aspiring movie director or production artist then this might just give you that little push forward to making a name for yourself.

All you need is that little camcorder of yours or if you want to be web wise, you can use your computer�s webcam. Strut and Film your stuff make sure before sending it away to ITunes, that you edit all the horrible stuff and the stuff you don�t want people to see and be aware that it only allows a 15minute timeframe per podcast. Once you have your film edited, open up your ITunes account and with this you can create your own logo and special effects. Once finished , send it to ITunes and it should take about 12 Hours to upload as they add their own techniques and computerised tidbits to it and make sure that the content is up to scratch and censored. As soon as they�ve completed it, then before you can say 1, 2, 3: Your online, live and stream-lining.

Just a quick reminder, that once your Podcast is online and live, that it is available to absolutely anyone and downloadable, so before placing it on the net make sure that you copyright it and make it yours.

You�ve finally snagged the girl of your dreams, you know the one: blonde luscious hair, those stunning blue eyes, and the one you have had your eyes on for awhile now.

The first few months fly-by, you two are having the time of your life, spending all your waking moments together , showing her off to your friends and family.

However there is a difference between general orderliness and neat and structured to the max , is her books alphabetically ordered , sorted by genre then sorry this results as being OTT which displays a hint of neuroticism.

Is her bookshelf full of mixed books, neat but messy - if so she is seen as imaginative and curious.

Is she floating in dreamland or grounded in reality?

What she displays around the pad plays a huge part on her personality.

If she displays characteristics of creativity and openness then she�ll have paintings on display. Have Movie posters, actors and actresses on display shows a down to earth personality and conservative side.

Got an Oriental theme going, beware even though she is curious and open she can hold an emotional complexity.

Loves to have on display postcards from around the world , train and plane tickets , world memorabilia , this indicates a need for adventure and this girl is aka a sensation seeker � the type who�d go bungee jumping , extreme sports and anything else for an adrenaline rush.

Introverted or Extroverted, You decide?

Look at her photographs , does she have on display photos of nature , objects , art , family , friends or herself more importantly.

Introverts tend to display photographs in the categories of nature , art and objects whilst Extroverts display and favour pictures of people.

NOT TO YOUNG , NOT TO OLD = JUST RIGHT OR DOES IT ?

In which was once the norm, couples tended to only be a couple of months to a few years older, five years was pushing it. Now the age gaps between couples are slowly widening and closeness is starting to diminish slowly.

Gone are the years when having a relationship with someone older or younger automatically had you branded as a cradle snatcher or pedophile and that it�s A-Ok to date someone younger and no longer an off-limits thing as couples now agree that of the statement Love is timeless which in other words love has no age restrictions , it is ageless.

The age gaps among couples are now becoming more and more socially acceptable with Hollywood stars setting the trends, starting with the now deceased Anna Nicole Smith who at the age of 26 married 89 year old J Howard Smith oil billionaire, the question that stands though is was it for love or money as 14 months later, he passed away leaving Anna with no part in his will. But at the end of it all, to be frank it�s really up to personal satisfaction and choice on who you date and whether or not you are comfortable with the age differences and factors that go with it.
