The Truth about Vampires and Werewolves

By Susan Hanniford Crowley (totally fang in cheek)

With all due respect to my vampire friends and to the werewolves (whom I don't really know as well), I'd like to clear up some matters.  My comments are based of course on recent events.  In case, you haven't noticed there's an explosion in vampire books, TV shows, and movies.  Why aren't werewolves getting equal time?  In all fairness, there are a lot of werewolf books and movies coming out.  Okay, it's not as much as the vampires, and I'll tell you why.

Why are vampires topping the charts as it were?  (Pun intended.)  Being immortal is a tremendous advantage.  Being around to see how the system was created, how it worked, and how to work it has made vampires number one.  They know the angles.  Give any supernatural creature enough time in the spotlight and with the right promotion, and they too can be considered romantic, wise in the ways of the world (meaning a talented lover), sensitive and completely understood by humanity.

The trouble with werewolves is that they're not immortal.  They live human lives and have a once a month problem where they're irritable, tear up anything that gets in their way, and can't get their looks under control.  The ultimate bad hair night.  Hmm, sounds like....  you're right, I won't go there.  If werewolves were immortal, there would be some heavy competition with the vamps.  What girl wouldn't want to take a cute, cuddy, strong werepup home!  Yes, he howls on the nights of the full moon, but he's howling good on all the other nights.  All that running around really builds up the physique and a general hunger for life.  They're very hot blooded, loyal, can be taught tricks.  Oh, oh.

I think the bottom line is preference.  Would you rather have the dependable guy with puppy eyes or the man of mystery who sweeps you off your feet and if you're not careful into the next century?   Why make a decision now?  Try out the possibilities.  Why limit yourself.

That's the truth about vampires and werewolves as I see it.  For a more intense exploration of the subject try out any of my books in the Vampires in Manhattan series, which currently available as ebooks.

WHEN LOVE SURVIVES is about Regina, a half leprechaun/half elf who discovers her magic on the day the World Trade Center is attacked. This story is also a sneak peak into the supernatural diversity of the city. It's available at  http://www.allromanceebooks.com/product-whenlovesurvives-362921-143.html

THE STORMY LOVE LIFE OF LAURA CORDELAIS is about Laura, a Telkhine, a rare race of supernaturals who control storms, and the tall, handsome, dark-haired, and mysterious vampire David Hilliard.  While Laura is falling from the Brooklyn Bridge, David is begging God to take pity on his loneliness.  He gets a vision of a woman falling.  What he doesn't know is that saving Laura plunges them both into an underworld of voodoo and sorcery, from which no one escapes.  Does he love her enough to die for her?  This book is filled with strange supernaturals the world has forgotten and a hot passion between two lovers who are fighting to keep together.  A vampire is not worthy of a Telkhine.  Does Laura really believe that?
